I have never been a skinny person. I mean I've never been overweight too but the last two years I was holding about 60 kg (132 lbs) of weight being 168 cm (5.5 inches) tall. It is a lot for me. Few years before I practiced running for a long distance ( I mean how long is "long"? You know what I mean?) The longest distance was 16 km. In that period of time I was 54 kg (honestly I don't actually remember the number but I was skinny and I remember the feeling of confidence because of my body. I didn't do anything special except of cardio of course. Maybe only did not put sweets and flour products in my mouth but still was able to eat 1 kg of apples, 1 big package of yogurt etc. Back then I understand that I was skinny only because of my workout. I also been stretching two times per week and sometimes I did calisthenics. Anyway.... It's been two years or so and one day I just woke up not being skinny anymore and holding about 5 extra kg and I decided to stop! Stop being lazy, stop eating everything I wanted, start workout harder and doing everything to lose those kilograms. I'd not say that I was eating like EVERYTHING. Chocolates, sweets, bread - I had this in my ration pretty often for the person who claimed that she eats healthy.
The formula of losing weight is simple - the more energy you've spent the skinnier you get. For instance, if you eat 1500 calories and you burn 2000, you've created a 500 calorie deficit that day. Your main goal for fat loss is to accumulate a significant caloric deficit over the entire week.
Yes, I knew it very well. Did I follow the formula? No! Otherwise, I'd not gain that extra fat on my stomach and leg. I knew that eggs and meat are good and sugar is bad. I knew it good. I had all the vitamins on my ration: veggies, fruits, chicken fillet, eggs and other food full of protein my body needed. Besides my usual breakfast, lunch, and dinner I had so many extra snacks like candies, "Sneakers", bread, ice-cream and so on and so forth. I believed that fruits are rich in vitamins (my whole life the family told me this - eat more vitamins, you need to eat more) I mean they ARE good but not when you eat 1 kg of apples or 5 bananas at a time. No one says you should forbid this sugar. You just have to understand that you have a limit of calories that you can eat per day. And we are getting closer to my point of view.
So what I'm trying to say here. You need no diet to keep your body in shape. You just need an organization and motivation and BELIEVING that you can and will get as skinny as you want.
To lose weight your body needs a calorie deficit. What is calorie deficit? It is when you spend more calories than getting per day.
For every person average daily calories norm is different, it depends on weight, height, sex, age and physical activity. Mine is about 1700-1800 calories. I've been eating less than 1400 kcal for the last two months or so. It is not that hard actually you just need to understand that there are plenty of healthy recipes you can eat that are actually tasty! I bet you imagine that you will eat only green veggies all the time to stay in form :) The biggest problem for me was to stop eating "sugar" because I was in love with candies, cookies etc. Staying entirely naked in the front of the mirror I finally understood that this body is not good and I want to be skinny and fit and that was true. How many times I said this to myself? That was a completely different situation. I don't know what went differently this time. I just decide that I respect my body as much as I respect myself and that I can't stand my extra fat anymore. I wanted my husband to love me even more (actually I don't know whether he could love me more lol). I wanted myself to love my body and finally stop hate it. I was tired of wearing loose clothing even though I'm still wearing it but it becomes a different way for me now. When your body is fit even the loose clothes suit different.
Although I'm still on my way I feel better in many ways now. My body is far from my dreams but now I realize that I don't want to get back anymore.
Maybe you think that I was only 60 kg and you need to lose more. My answer is - no matter how much weight you have to lose. The road is the same: you have to make a calorie deficit. I recommend starting working out (there are a lot of "calm" kind of workout such as pilates or yoga for beginners). Even though I got my big ass I have never stopped exercising. I did it less in the previous year which I realized kinda late. I thought my exercise is enough for me but I wanted more.
My passion is stretching. I've been stretching for about 2 years and a half so far but I count only the previous six months when I started working out more. My stretching became a routine: I started doing my workout at home for 3-4 times per week (compare to 2 t/w in a group before). Besides the gymnastic I do calisthenic and some cardio (jumping with a rope is my favorite one. Running is also fun but you know...nobody LOVES running that much haha) My goal now is to lose weight as soon as possible so my cardio plan is 2-3 times per week. Nevertheless, I LOVE Yoga/stretching days when I just meditate and doing everything as calm as I want.
Actually, there are a lot of sweets and tasty meal that ARE healthy. If you love mayonnaise - you have to love a Greek yogurt. If you like cakes and cookies - you have to start loving healthy sweets such as cottage cheese (millions of ways to make it yummy), fruits (find low-calories fruits as melon, watermelon, strawberries etc), chocolate (cocoa), pizza (make it with low-calorie ingredients) and so on and so forth.
Thanks to all the social media (do not forget about Google) people do not have a problem with finding a good and yummy meal on Pinterest, Instagram, Facebook or Twitter. I follow some bloggers who post healthy recipes and when I find something easy to cook (I hate to spend half of my day in my kitchen) I am going excited about it. Can't wait to try something new. It is funny :)
I have to say that this was the worst nightmare for me before I started my journey. Nobody said you will never eat your favorite "Mars" again. Constancy is key. When you decide to start - the best way is to avoid meal you used to eat. Your body needs time to understand that you do not need those hamburgers anymore. In some time when you finally eat something really sweet such as chocolate, you will understand what I'm talking about. It will feel as if you have eaten a cup of sugar.
For sure you could do everything you want. But ask yourself: do you REALLY want to get that body? This is important. Your dream body has to be the biggest thing that you ever wanted. Ask yourself: can I eat another burger and working out hard two days more to get rid of it? Can I eat that BIG piece of cake and run another 10 km to stop feeling guilty about myself? If your answer is yes - nobody could ever stop you from eating those things but you have to stress your body with intensive exercise otherwise you would see that cake on your butts pretty soon :)
Do I eat an unhealthy meal? What about my favorite sugar products?
It was so much of joy to see my first results. Never thought losing weight could be so much fun. Every month I make myself to promise to lose the next 2-3 kilograms and if I do - I get myself something nice. After my first 5 kilograms, I've spent $200 on stuff I wanted: clothing, new electric grill and other girly things. You could do the same. Without an award, you will lose the interest of dieting fast. My healthy body is everything I've been dreaming for but those pretty little stuff make me satisfied even more.
My deadline is: when I see something sweet (sneakers in the supermarket, a bread that smells like heaven) I understand that having my dream body would be far more better than spend 2 min eating "bounty" and send to the hell all the effort that I've put on running that few extra kilometers or 15 min of rope jumping. Sounds hard? It is not that impossible as you think. Every time when you stop dieting and start eating everything you've been eating before is because your motivation is not enough. You didn't want the toned body THAT much.
For me it was like "ok, let's get rid that fat off and after few weeks I said myself that I'm completely ok with my current situation and if I put some loose clothes on it will get even better".
Respect yourself. Respect your body, your health, your life. Respect your partner. I wanted my husband to brag of me, of my body. I think it is important to see that fire in your bae's eyes and believe me when you get better your partner will fell in love with you even more.
Let me make it clear for you. For my weight 30 min of running burns about 250 kcal. Do you understand this? 30 (!) min of running.
For example, my breakfast includes 20 gr of cooked oatmeal + half of banana + 5-7 gram of peanuts is about 300 kcal, one "bounty" bar could have 150-200 kcal, 2 big red apples - 170 kcal and so on.
Anyway answering that question. I do eat more sometimes when I don't have an ability to cook myself but only in a period when I know that I didn't pass the line and was a good girl eating only low-calories food and working out hard.
And we are getting closer to the thought that diet is everything. I don't like call it a diet. It is about healthy lifestyle: eat smart, workout hard and be happy.
For me, it wasn't clear how to start doing it right and since I'm in love with all the new technologies I decided to install an app that would help me with my goal. When you start filling out all the kind of food you have eaten you will be surprised to see how much calories you ate yesterday or that party day when you decide to delay your diet. I also bought a kitchen scales to see the weight of meal I'm about to eat. At first, it was annoying that I can't help but grab some snacks every 2 hours and in the end of the day, my "snack" calories were the half of my daily limit. In some time I stopped eat sandwiches with every cup of coffee that I drink because seeing all those calories was clear enough to understand that I can lose weight or eat something with all the drinks on the planet. So I stopped and now I feel like I don't need all that food during the day.
For sure sometimes I am starving especially after a hard workout. If you thing that you will never be full after healthy kind of food just try it. I started with a dinner salad that included chicken breast, some veggies and 50 gram of brynza cheese. I thought if I eat that think I will be hungry to the end of my life lol. Nevertheless, it WAS tasty. I didn't feel hungry at all and from that moment I was excited about my dinner. Sometimes before bedtime, I'm hungry and if you are and can't do anything about it - go and drink water, it helps. Feeling hungry is okay overeating is the worse.
For some of you, it might sound as something you can not do. With me it was the same. I thought that only models or fitness related girls have a fit body but it is not true. Everyone could do it despite everyone will be telling you why do you need this and to stop eating this shit. And I mean EVERYONE. My parents don't understand why I am being 60 kg wanted to lose all that extra weight because I am "so skinny".
And if so many people are in a good shape and many of them are just like you and me, not a fitness guru, they just want to be healthy so why you cannot look as you want?
I am still on my way learning my body and everything that affected my weight loss journey. I am not a diet guru. Just trying to explain to you that all the issues with weight loss are only in your head. If you have any questions that I might have missed please leave a comment down below.
Love yourself, respect yourself. Treat your body as you want your best half would treat you. Motivate yourself and get yourself some little presents for every small win. And never ever give up!
Cheers
